Humewood Castle, Co. Wicklow
Kiltra Timber supplied large quantities of reclaimed Pitch Pine for the refurbishment of Humewood. We supplied some Pitch Pine flooring, straight edge and in predominantly long lengths. The 32,000 sq ft Victorian-Gothic mansion is currently owned by media mogel and US billionaire John Malone, the largest private land owner in America. We also supplied two joinery firms, Lambstongue and Greenwood Joinery who further processed the Pitch Pine into Windows, Doors, Gates, Flooring, Skirting, Panelling etc. The architects in this development were the well known firm of Henry J Lyons. Humewood Castle was awarded the "Best Conservation/Restoration Project' at the 2016 RIAI Awards and the "Heritage/Conservation Project of the Year" at the 2016 Irish Building and Design Awards. -
Soho, London
The refurbishment of two Georgian townhouses which form part of a listed terrace on Broadwick Street in the Soho conservation area of London were granted planning permission to return to residential use. London Heritage stipulated the use of Reclaimed Pitch Pine floorboards of a particular size that were to be laid with joins in line with the edges of the fireplaces. This meant producing blemish free top grade flooring in pre specified lengths. The property owners were Great Portland Estates, the developers were Forcia Ltd and the architect was Ian McArdle. -
Wilton Castle, Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford
The refurbishment and transformation of Wilton Castle which had been burnt down during the troubles in the 1920’s into an up market wedding and tourist venue is a project that Kiltra Timber were happy to be associated with. Ten years ago Pitch Pine beams were used at the start of the restoration project to add strength to the structure. In 2014 and 2015 Kiltra supplied all the timber flooring and worked with the owner to provide flooring on budget but worthy of top class guest accommodation. In the main room downstairs American Black Walnut has been used, while upstairs Oak and Pine, both stained were chosen.
